Zac Posen To Launch Z Spoke A Lower Price Fashion Line At Saks

We did these white shirts, and bootleg denim,” Posen tells WWD, holding up a navy T-shirt. “Opening price point at $88.” Zac has always wanted to do a line that would be Zac Posen but maybe talk to a different girl,” says Ron Frasch, Saks Inc.’s president and chief merchandising officer. “Over the course of the past year, we got together with Zac and Susan [Posen, company chairman and Zac’s mother] and began having conversations around how the world has changed and what some of the needs are that we had as a retailer. The moment was opportune.”
Z Spoke comes at a time when the market has shifted and many of Posen’s fellow designers have launched lower-priced collections. Posen stresses that Z Spoke is not a celebrity brand, but one more attuned to the street. That said, he’s not looking to add tons of tough T-shirts and distressed jeans. “There’s a lot of that on the market,” says Posen. So expect chic affordable dresses as well. -WWD

You probably never heard of Charlotte Tilbury, but you’ve probably seen her work on the front cover of Vogue or other glossy magazines, and on the faces of celebrity clients. She is one of the pioneers of sultrily smoky eyes she has got them down to a science. She works with Jennifer Lopez, Gwyneth Paltrow, Victoria Beckham, Kate Moss and Gwen Stefani, to name a few.

She has now launched a cosmetics line Myface Cosmetics. Myface is the idea of Gail Federici, the business partner of John Frieda, who is also one of the financial backers of the project and the brand is being pitched as the make-up equivalent of John Frieda’s phenomenally successful hair-care products, Frizz-Ease and Sheer Blonde. This means mass-market sales, at affordable prices.

Major Layoffs At Zac Posen & Gucci

Word on the street is that Zac Posen and Gucci are about to have some major layoffs. As of Monday, Posen vice president of communications Karen Duffy’s position was officially “eliminated”; it is now being handled by Zac’s mom, Susan, and Alexandra Smith, long-time director of public relations and celebrity. While a rep for Posen had “no comment,” an industry insider dishes that more layoffs are “pending” at the Laight St. offices,  a result of the tough times designers are having in New York. The insider adds "major layoffs" are expected at Gucci as well.
