Diane Von Furstenberg Design Hospital Gowns For A Cleveland Hospital

For the past several months, the Cleveland Clinic (in Cleveland) has been piloting a new prototype hospital-gown design it hopes will significantly improve patients’ experiences. Ryan and her team were aided by internationally renowned designer Diane von Furstenberg, who offered her design expertise to the clinic’s efforts when she met its CEO, Toby Cosgrove, at a networking conference in 2007. The new design was unveiled at the 2010 Patient Experience Summit in Cleveland. Read more.

Abercrombie & Fitch To Close 60 Stores In The US

Shares of American Apparel and Abercrombie & Fitch  are both down, as the former offered a disappointing preliminary Q2 earnings report, and the latter beat expectations but cut its outlook for capital spending.


Abecrombie & Fitch announced it plans to close down 60 stores in the United States, while opening several more overseas, including 20 Hollister stores.

M.A.C Cosmetic And Rodarte "Factory Worker Inspired Color Collection" Canceled Due To Mexican Backlash

 M.A.C released its new “Juarez” collection in collaboration with the Rodarte, with lipglosses, eyeshadows and a pale nail polish called “Factory". The Rodarte designers said they were inspired by Juarez and the lines of women workers who’d make their way to factory jobs in the middle of the night. Sleepwalking, they called it.

Today the company announced it would discontinue the color collection. Here is the statement:

Out of respect for the people of Mexico, the women and girls of Juarez and their families, as well as our MAC Mexican staff and colleagues, MAC has made the decision not to ship the MAC Rodarte limited edition makeup collection. This decision will have no impact on MAC’s commitment to donate all of its projected global profits from this collection to local and international groups that work to improve the lives of the women and girls of Juarez. We are currently conducting due diligence to ensure we donate to organizations with a proven record of directly supporting the women and girls of Juarez.

MAC and Rodarte are deeply and sincerely sorry and we apologize to everyone we offended. We have listened very closely to the feedback of concerned global citizens. We are doing our very best to right this wrong. The essence of MAC is to give back and care for the community and Rodarte is committed to using creativity for positive social change. We are grateful for the opportunity to use what we have learned to raise awareness on this important issue.

• Balenciaga is presenting a set by redheaded model/singer/wife of Jack White Karen Elson. She'll be performing songs from her debut album, The Ghost Who Walks, and maaaybe — fingers crossed — dueting with her hubby.

• Chanel  The brand's Soho shop is giving polish junkies a first look at its forthcoming Les Khakis de Chanel collection and offering complimentary manicures.

• Rag & Bone and 3.1 Phillip Lim Mercer Street Block Party, where makeup guru Gucci Westman will be offering mini-makeovers to FNOers. Customers who make a purchase at Phillip Lim’s store will also receive a complimentary tube of NARS' new Pure Matte lipstick.

• MAC, which is launching its Fabulous Felines Fall 2010 color collection. Sarah Silverman will be at the brand’s Broadway store for a special stand-up performance (insert requisite pussy joke here).

• Bergdorf Goodman is hosting a doggie fashion show, with designers like Thakoon, Reem Acra, and James Mischka slated to walk the runway with their costumed canine companions. The department store is also getting in on the karaoke action with a sing-sing party hosted by photographer Patrick McMullan; Cynthia Rowley, Eugenia Kim, Nicholas Kirkwood, Nicole Richie, and Norma Kamali are just a few of the fashion insiders expected to take the stage. (Note: This comes 30 minutes before a meet-and-greet sesh with Victoria Beckham, whose hobnobbing will be soundtracked by guest DJ Brian Atwood.)

The Last Dress Alexander McQueen Touched

Fashion editors were given an intimate viewing of Alexander McQueen’s final collection in Paris this past spring, this dress was not part of it. Perhaps the last piece touched by the designer’s hands, it was made by McQueen for his longtime friend Annabelle Neilson, and its only outing has been to Elton John’s White Tie and Tiara Ball in June. Read more.

Karl Lagerfeld Photography Exhibition Opening In September

An exhibition of photos by Karl Lagerfeld is opening in Paris this September in time for the city's Fashion Week. The show at the Maison Européenne de la Photographie in the historic heart of Paris will feature a mix of fashion photos, portraits, landscapes, architectural images and personal shots, including several of his longtime muse, Claudia Schiffer. Lagerfeld, who shoots all of Chanel's ad campaigns himself, has published several books of his photographs, and has his own art book publishing imprint and book shop in Paris called 7L.
