Marc Jacobs To Marry This Weekend With Only Guest Of Two

Marc Jacobs's wedding is supposedly happening this weekend — and despite the fact that the ceremony will only be attended by him and Lorenzo Martone, an after-party is in the works. Marc is also bringing back his Fashion Week after-party for Spring 2010 after cancelling it last season, with Lady Gaga as the guest of honor; as for his fashion show's guest list, which he cut from 2,000 to 900 last season, he told The Cut: "We’re definitely not going to be doing our huge show. But I don’t know if it’s going to be the same as last time, or smaller. -Ny Post

Jean Paul Gaultier Said To Be Resigning From Hermes

Change is brewing at Hermès, and it's starting with Jean Paul Gaultier. The designer is said to be resigning from the company; his last collection for the house is due to bow in Paris this October. In addition to producing his eponymous collections of ready-to-wear and haute couture, Gaultier has spent the last six years as Hermès' creative director following Martin Margiela's resignation in early 2003. An Hermès spokesperson did not return requests for comment.

Gaultier's accomplished tenure at Hermès has been governed by critical runway acclaim and tremendous profitability, cementing the brand's enviable status as one of the most recession-proof luxury houses. In July, the company released exceptionally positive earnings reports, announcing a 12% increase in second-quarter sales ($607.4 million at current exchange) in the 3 months ending June 30. Leather goods were up 33.4%; ready-to-wear and fashion increased by 12.7%.

Hermès' courtship of Gaultier began in June 1999, when the brand invested $23 million into the designer's eponymous collection for a 35% stake. "I believe," said Hermès' then-CEO Jean-Louis Dumas at the time, "that Gaultier has the capacity to be what Hermès has become." - The Fashion Daily

Jury Finds Frederic Bourke Co Founder Of Dooney & Bourke Handbag Company Guilty Of Bribery-Related Charges

In the third day of deliberations, a jury of seven women and five men found Frederic Bourke, a founder of the accessories firm Dooney & Bourke, guilty of conspiracy to violate the Foreign Corrupt Practices Act and the travel act and making false statements to federal law-enforcement officials. The charges were related to a scheme to bribe Azerbaijan government officials in connection with the privatization of the State Oil Co. of the Azerbaijan.

Our fine colleague at Dow Jones Newswires, Chad Bray, reports that Bourke was found not guilty of a single-count of money laundering conspiracy.

Nonetheless, the conviction on the other counts are sure to please DOJ at a time in which it has made foreign bribery and enforcement of FCPA a high priority.

Prosecutors from the U.S. Attorney’s Office in Manhattan had alleged Bourke was aware of an improper scheme by Viktor Kozeny, president and chairman of Oily Rock Group Ltd., to bribe Azeri officials in order to allow an investment consortium created by Kozeny to buy a controlling interest in Socar. The scheme ran between 1997 and 1999. - NY Times

Glen Senk Explains His Journey To CEO Of Urban Outfitters And Anthropologie

I started earning money in my early teens by teaching others to ride and training other people’s horses. Then my father began buying young horses for me to train, compete with and then sell. I paid for my college and graduate school education with what I earned.

I graduated from New York University and the University of Chicago Graduate School of Business, but spending time with horses taught me the most. Showing horses teaches strategy, discipline, collaboration and patience. You learn to be fluid, to respond quickly, athletically and effectively to whatever comes your way.

I started riding again five years ago and compete about 15 times a year. It’s stressful being accountable to customers, shareholders and more than 12,000 employees. Riding relieves the tension. It’s a total release, and it keeps me in shape. Most people don’t realize the strength it takes to ride. You control the horse with your core muscles and your balance, and guide it with your legs. You’ve got to remain absolutely still — especially over the jumps — so as not to interfere with the animal. I practice about 10 hours a week, and I work out several days a week to maintain my strength and stamina.

By my second year in business school, I knew that I wanted to enter the retail business. Retail allows me to be master of my own destiny. I liked the fact that retailers have control over the products they carry, the selling environment and pricing. I also loved the theatrics of retail. There was a connection to the showmanship I have learned from my days with horses.

My first job after graduating was with Bloomingdale’s. I had nine great years there, starting as an assistant buyer and finishing as senior vice president and managing director of Bloomingdale’s by Mail.

My partner, Keith, and I had always been Anglophiles, so when I was offered an executive job at the retailer Habitat in London, we decided to move. We loved it there, but we were ready to come back to the States after a couple of years. I joined Williams-Sonoma in the United States as the head merchant for all five of its businesses. Two years later, I decided to leave to start a food business.

As I was developing the plan and raising the capital, I met Dick Hayne, the founder of Urban Outfitters. Dick offered me a job, but I was determined to start my own business. After another year of raising money, I realized that I was a better merchant than money-raiser. I returned my investors’ money and joined Urban Outfitters as president of the Anthropologie brand. Dick had promised to let me run Anthropologie as if it were my own, and he was true to his word. In 2007 I became C.E.O. of Urban Outfitters.

Keith is Anthropologie’s antiques buyer and gallery director. He and I split our time between Philadelphia, where our corporate headquarters is located, New York City and Florida. - NY Times

Stella McCartney And Bono's Wife Ali Hewson In A Battle

Fashion designer Stella McCartney is being sued by Bono's wife, Ali Hewson, for using the word 'nude' in the name of her new perfume Stella NudeHewson owns a company called Nude Skincare, which sells natural probiotic products. She is claiming the word ‘nude' and the branding used by McCartney are very similar to her own range of products.

Nude products are endorsed by celebrities including supermodels Christy Turlington and Helena Christensen.  A Nude Skincare product is also cover-mounted on this month's Harpers Bazaar Magazine.

With products currently stocked in luxury retail stores, including Harvey Nichols, Harrods and Selfridges & Co, the launch of the new site coincides with the brand also being rolled out in all Space NK stores across the UK following an initial trial period.

Meet The Female Writers Behind The Mad Men

Writers, from left, Marti Noxon, Lisa Albert, Kater Gordon, Dahvi Waller, Robin Veith, Cathryn Humphris, Maria Jacquemetton, at Musso & Frank Grill in Hollywood.
Mad Men is widely considered to be the best-written show on TV, a "men's show" whose secret is its women - onscreen and off. But there's an irony at work: these women are writing about characters working in a male ghetto - and being regarded not as members of the team but as aberrations - while living it. - Sadie
Lisa Albert (Producer) – Is a veteran sitcom writer. She spent several years as a staff writer on Major Dad,and freelanced episodes for many sitcoms in the ’80s and ’90s back when freelance scripts were actually produced. (Did you know there’s still a Writers’ Guild rule that every show has to at least meet with a couple of freelance writers every season? What sad meetings those must be nowadays.) She also wrote one episode of Becker, but after Weiner left so there’s no connection there. Most recently, as network sitcom jobs have dried up and freelance jobs have become nonexistent, she apparently did what many veteran comedy writers did and wrote an episode of Hannah Montana for The Disney Channel, and now she’s a drama writer.
Bridget Bedard (Staff Writer) – This is her first TV writing job as far as I know. She is a graduate from NYU’s film department whose student film, Babywon several prizes and was shown at Sundance.
Maria Jacquemetton (Producer) – A husband-and-wife writing team, the Jacquemettons have written for Star Trek: Enterprise, Baywatch, Relic Hunter and Highlander. In other words, if most of the Mad Men writers are refugees from sitcoms, you could say this team is a refugee from genre shows that took in a lot of freelance scripts. There aren’t a lot of genre shows out there and those that are out there have fairly closed writing staffs, which may be one reason why you find a number of genre-TV writers turning up on cable. Mrs. Jacquemetton was in TV production in her native Boston before going to L.A. to pursue a screenwriting career (in the usual way: being a writers’ assistant, entering and winning screenwriting contests); now in addition to writing, she is “head of writing for film, television and interactive media at Vancouver Film School.”
Mad Men  Season 3 premieres tonight 10 EST on AMC. I love this show.

Harper Bazaar Magazine Snagged An Interview With Karl Lagerfeld For Their September Issue

In Bazaar’s upcoming September issue, the magazine snagged an interview with possibly the most talked-about woman in the history of fashion: Coco Chanel. Ok fine, so Coco may not exactly be available for interviews today–but they got the next best thing, Karl Lagerfeld, to channel the iconic designer. A sneak peek of the hilarity, just for vous

Harper’s Bazaar: Your clothing liberated women in the 1920s. Are you still a feminist? Karl Lagerfeld as Coco Chanel: I was never a feminist because I was never ugly enough for that.

HB: What would you change about your looks? Would you consider Botox? CC: When I look at myself in the mirror, I think I’m pretty modern–whatever that means. But maybe I should change my makeup. In my day, the products were dreadful.

HB: What’s on your iPod? CCThe Kills. They suit my character.

HB: You were famous for your paramours. Whom would you have an affair with today? CC: I like handsome men, so there would be many possibilities, but dukes and princes are not the right escort for a woman like me today. I like to charm younger men. This has not changed.

HB: What’s the new Chanel classic? CCAs apparently my old jacket is still around, done by this idiot Karl, I have to help him find a new idea.

Jennifer Lopecovers the September issue of InStyle magazine. It’s a special edition of the magazine as it’s InStyle’s 15th anniversary issue which means more pages!

It’s a very different cover from what I had anticipated but I really like it! Higher end than what we’re used to from InStyle. The dress is by Jil Sander, makeup by Scott Barnes. No idea who took the photographs.

The cover shoot took place in June and according to the cover-lines the interview will be about fame, family and turning 40.
