Visual wizard/guru Jody Quon has resigned from W magazine after creatively leading just three issues (including November’s “Art Issue,” which digitally draped Kim Kardashian in the signature red-backed Futura bold italic phrases of artist Barbara Kruger).

“It was a mutual decision and her position won’t be filled,” a spokesperson saidwho also noted that the departure makes design director Joseph Logan the magazine’s top creative.

In April, editor-in-chief Stefano Tonchi
stole Jody Quon from New York magazine, where she was photo director. I'm sure she won't be unemployed long! The cover to the right was directed by Quon for W's Sept issue.

Last January, Beverly Hills police stopped Tonchi for a "routine traffic violation"; when Tonchi refused a breathalyzer test at the scene, he was arrested when he failed a battery of field sobriety tests.
Police filed a single misdemeanor DUI charge against Tonchi last February, and he was arraigned last March, but trial was delayed for over a year while the defense filed several motions to suppress evidence. Tonchi's attorney confirmed to Gawker that a plea was worked out shortly before trial was to begin yesterday morning. The DUI charge was dropped and Tonchi was allowed to plead to only the initial traffic violation, failure to stop at a limit line. Tonchi himself did not appear in court.

James Reginato has left W Magazine, reports The Daily. Reginato was revered for his exclusive in-depth profiles of society types and royals, often conducted in their elaborate homes that had never before appeared in publication. Despite repeated requests, neither Reginato nor a W representative could be reached for comment at this time. Further layoffs are expected at W next week. Next on the chopping blocking Emily Popp. The unemployment office is busy these days for real. -Dispatch
