Tom Ford Does Not Want Fat Men In His Stores

According to Page Six, Tom Ford told towering Italian investor/photographer Jean Pigozzi that he doesn't want his giant kind at his boutique. The 6-foot-4, size XXL Pigozzi relates to Ingrid Sischy in Vanity Fair's December issue that he told Ford after visiting his men's store, "Tom, I went to your shop. I couldn't buy a handkerchief. Tom said, 'You know why? I don't want big fat guys like you in my shop' . . . But I think he's making a mistake because big guys like me have the money."

Designer Jean-Paul Gaultier, Farida Khelfa and models walk the runway during the Hermes Ready to Wear Spring/Summer 2011 show during Paris Fashion Week at Halle Freyssinet on October 6, 2010 in Paris, France.Louis Vuitton purchased 14.2% of Hermes shares, and despite denying any full-on takeover bids, LVMH announced intentions to buy more shares depending on market conditions. Hermes executives are not happy.
In a newspaper interview with Le Figaro today, Patrick Thomas CEO of Hermes and Bertrand Puech  fifth-generation heir of Hermes called for Louis Vuitton  to get rid of his newly-acquired stake. They added that they did not see the shares purchase as "friendly," despite Arnault's assurances that he doesn't plan a hostile takeover. "The family is saying clearly and unanimously: ‘If you want to be friendly, Monsieur Arnault, "get rid of it withdraw".

Karl Lagerfeld Helped Tommy Hilfiger Reinvent His Brand

Tommy Hilfiger  suffered poor sales in the late 90's and early 00's but was able to reinvent his brand. Tommy Hilfiger said Tuesday, he owes at least a bit of that success to Karl Lagerfeld.
When Hilfiger was trying to figure out how to turn the line around, he met with Karl Lagerfeld and asked him how he was able to reinvent Chanel successfully. “He said, ‘It was very simple. I looked at the Chanel archives and decided to modernize what existed already and make it relevant for today.’ As simple as it sounds, that’s exactly what we did,” Hilfiger said.
Now, Hilfiger has Peter Som consulting on the brand and made sure it has returned to what it stood for over the years: “a cool, American classic brand — preppie with a twist. That’s exactly what we were when we started."

ELLE DECOR: How would you characterize great design?
DIANE VON FURSTENBERG: There’s design and there’s art. Good design is total harmony. There’s no better designer than nature—if you look at a branch or a leaf, it’s perfect. It’s all function. Art is different. It’s about emotion. It’s about suffering and beauty—but mostly suffering!
ED: Do you think the current economic climate is good or bad for design?
DVF: A challenging economy is always good for design. It unites necessity and functionality. You are forced to be creative with poor materials.
ED: You created the wrap dress, one of the great problem-solving designs of the 20th century, during the early 1970s, another period of economic turmoil.
DVF: It’s more amazing to me now than it was then. It’s crazy that something has survived so long and continues to appeal to so many different young women. It’s still 15 percent of my business. It’s functional, extremely flattering, and very reliable. It’s definitely a good design. Anything that has survived that long is not hype.
ED: What is the difference between how men and women design clothes?
DVF: Christian Lacroix once told me that women designers make clothes and men designers make costumes. I think that’s true.
ED: There’s plenty of design on runways that’s not very functional. When you see those clothes, what do you think?
DVF: It’s their problem, not mine.
ED: Where is the most exciting design happening?
DVF: I’d have to say Africa. They use and recycle everything there. The way they put things together—things that really have to work and perform a function—that to me is great design.
ED: Have you bought anything lately that you love?
DVF: The iPad! What is better designed than that? I read magazines on it, I play Scrabble. I use it for everything. Read more.
