Word on the street is that Zac Posen and Gucci are about to have some major layoffs. As of Monday, Posen vice president of communications Karen Duffy’s position was officially “eliminated”; it is now being handled by Zac’s mom, Susan, and Alexandra Smith, long-time director of public relations and celebrity. While a rep for Posen had “no comment,” an industry insider dishes that more layoffs are “pending” at the Laight St. offices,  a result of the tough times designers are having in New York. The insider adds "major layoffs" are expected at Gucci as well.

Financer Bails on Luella

Luella Bartley, the British designer whose quirky yet feminine designs have dazzled many, has
become the latest fashion casualty of the recession. Luella said its key producer in Italy, Carla Carini,
unexpectedly closed last month, leaving the brand unable to fulfil its spring/summer 2010 orders.
VSQ Ltd, which also distributes for Armani, advised Luella that it had decided not to invest further
in the label. -Telegraph
This is very disappointing the brand has so much potential. I have purchased many of their fashions
and as a consumer was looking forward to Spring/Summer 2010. I hope they are able to find investors
who understand the uniqueness of the brand.

Tom Ford Says Yves Saint Laurent Was Evil To Him When He Worked For YSL

Tom Ford interviewed with the The Advocate Magazine. When asked about his experience working for YSL early in his career, Ford said some of his best collections were there. He than said there was a flipside "Yves Saint Laurent was such a negative experience for me even though the business boomed. Yves and his partner, Pierre Bergé, made my life such misery. I went to college in France. It wasn’t until I started working in France that I began to dislike it. They would call the fiscal police, and they would show up at our offices. They’re like Nazis, those police. They’d come marching in, and you had to let them in and they’d interview my secretary. I’ve never talked about this on the record before, but it was an awful time for me. Pierre and Yves were just evil. So Yves Saint Laurent doesn’t exist for me." -The Advocate

Dana Thomas wrote for Newsweek, "The Tragic Decline of the House of Versace".
"Many in the fashion industry believe it's time for the brand to continue without Versace family involvement — and some suggest that the family is starting to accept this idea too. Last year, Santo [Versace, Donatella's brother and former CEO of the company] was elected to the Italian Parliament. Allegra Beck Versace, 50 percent company heir has been attending Brown University. So will Donatella remain at the helm? 'Maybe,' say former Versace executive. Maybe not, which after a decade of turmoil, may be
 the best thing for the
company after all." -Newsweek
