Tamara's Interview
This is Mellon's new New York life, and this is her new New York pad. Choosing the idyllic neighborhood in which she lives was a deliberate move, both geographically and emotionally. Put delicately, Mellon's past few years have not been a walk in Central Park; put bluntly, after her father's death, a very public divorce, and most recently a trip to court to sue her own mother (Mellon admits that she is estranged from her family), she was ready for a change of pace.

Last year was the best and worst year of my life, a breakthrough year for me," Mellon explains. "I've moved here and managed to clear up a lot of the wreckage. I feel like I've arrived in New York with a clean slate, and I have a whole new set of challenges ahead of me. And I find that invigorating."
"I've actually been told, when someone sits and spends time with me, that I'm not the person they thought I would be," she says. She adds that there is still a stigma to a woman who is successful in business. "If a woman gets tough in negotiations, she's difficult, whereas a man would be considered a brilliant businessman. Of course, there have been moments in my career when I've had to be tough and I've had to step up to the plate — but usually that's because a man has underestimated me." She smiles and lets out that belly laugh. "But other than that, I wouldn't say I'm a tough person." Read More.

Tamara Mellon tells Interview Magazine:

"Journalists normally come in with a preconceived idea about what I’m like. They have all these assumptions that aren’t accurate. They want this fantasy of this sort of tough businesswoman, red-carpet thing. That’s the story they want."

JOHNSON-HILL: You look stunning. I couldn’t turn my eyes away—I think I’ve re-looked at it about five times.
TAMARA MELLON: Oh, my god! I mean, it’s nude but it’s chic. But with that reaction, okay . . . I wonder what they’ll say at the next board meeting.
JOHNSON-HILL: What was your motivation to do all that back then?
TAMARA MELLON: Independence.
JOHNSON-HILL: Independence from what?
TAMARA MELLON: Independence from a very dysfunctional family.
JOHNSON-HILL: So you were totally driven by creating something that would become your own and be your baby.
TAMARA MELLON: Yes, it was almost like buying my freedom.
JOHNSON-HILL: Well, what motivates you now?
TAMARA MELLON: There were two things that motivated me then: independence, and passion about what I was doing. And those are still the things that motivate me now. I still have that passion for creating a product. And I will never be dependent on a man. I will never be dependent on a husband or a boyfriend or a father. That’s one thing that’s really important to me.

Her new closet, an L-shaped space about 15 by 23 feet at its widest, uses angled shelves that provide more visibility to her hundreds of shoes, which sit two pairs deep. (Roughly half of Ms. Mellon's shoes are stored elsewhere.) The blond wood shelves and hanging bars allow nearly everything to be seen, an arrangement she finds more efficient. "My big issue in life is time. I never have enough," said Ms. Mellon, 42. The back of the closet is reserved for jeans and a few pairs of sneakers, below.

Jimmy Choo Founder Tamara Mellon Wins The Lawsuit Against Her Mother

The legal case between Tamara Mellon and her mother has been settled, after a legal battle that has been ongoing since 2008. The iconic shoe guru and founder of Jimmy Choo received $6 million from 70-year-old Ann Yeardye her mother, a former Chanel model, after the two camps came to a settlement last week.
The pair clashed after Tamara Mellon, who made $100 million from her footwear empire, sold the shoe label to an investment group; but an accounting error meant some shares were mistakenly transferred to a family account run by Mrs Yeardye. Yeardye allegedly refused to return them, calling the claims that a mistake had been made "erroneous'' and launching a counter complaint against her daughter for fraud and breach of contract.
