Versace Awarded $20 Million Stemming From A 2003 Counterfeit Case
Versace announced today that it has been awarded $20 million in damages by the United States District Court for the Central District in Los Angeles for a 2003 case of counterfeiting and trademark violations. Versace chairman Santo Versace appeared himself as a witness in the case, which stemmed from a complaint seven years ago that 72 retail stores in Southern California and Arizona were selling counterfeit Versace products, including Versace, Gianni Versace, Versace Jeans Couture, and V2.
Anna Sui To Write A Book About Her Career Book Due Out In November Of 2011
Chronicle Books has announced that “Anna Sui,” a visual retrospective of the renowned American fashion designer, is due in November of next year. In the first book to cover the entire scope of Sui’s twenty-year career, fans will get rare access to the designer’s creative process. Anna Sui spoke about the project, “The process of compiling and reliving favorite memories from my career was very gratifying, and working with Andrew Bolton was a joy. It is wonderful to see so many years of my work illustrated in Chronicle’s retrospective. I feel that this book truly captures the World of Anna Sui.”
London Legendary Department Store Harrods Just Sold For $ 2.2 Billion
Mohamed Al Fayed, the legendary owner of iconic department store Harrods in London has sold the department store to holding company Qatar Trust for $2.2 billion, say industry insiders close to the deal.
"Mohamed Al Fayed has decided to retire and to spend more time with his children and grand-children," Lazard International Chairman Ken Costa said in a statement. "He has built Harrods into a unique luxury brand with worldwide recognition."
Armani To Close Its Dallas Store
Armani announced that its 5,300 square foot store in NorthPark will close, leaving the line with 12 collection stores in the United States. The NorthPark store located in Dallas is located directly across from Neiman Marcus, the store carried an extensive Armani selection for both women and men.
Economy Forces Saks Fifth Avenue To Close Its San Diego Store
Retailer Saks, today announced it plans to close its Saks Fifth Avenue store located in the Fashion Valley Mall in San Diego, California (approximately 81,000 square feet) by July 17, 2010.
Steve Sadove, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Saks, noted, "Store closing decisions are never easy but are necessary from time to time. The planned closing of our San Diego store is consistent with our strategy of focusing our resources on our most productive stores."

Word on the street is that the days of getting a seven digit contract with Victoria Secret is OVER. Sources claim that the fashion brand will continue to pay millions for two or three of their top models but the others probably will not have their contract renewed. In 2002, Roberto Cavalli faced tax fraud charges, accused of “taking improper company tax deductions for restoration work” on his Florence villa. Today word comes that Roberto Cavalli has been completely exonerated and tax fraud charges dismissed. The Florence Court of Appeal, in a decision dated April 30, 2010, has completely exonerated designer Roberto Cavalli of earlier tax fraud charges brought against him, finding that the facts alleged against him did not amount to a crime---a complete dismissal in Italian law.

The Fashion Institute of Technology will be honoring Lagerfeld with a special Fashion Visionary Award on September 10, 2010 in New York City. Lagerfeld will attend the organization’s annual benefit luncheon at Avery Fisher Hall that day. “We chose him because he is just an absolutely outstanding designer, one of the greatest of the 20th and 21st century,” said Valerie Steele, director of The Museum at FIT. “He is not just incredibly respected within the fashion world, but also known to everybody and instantly recognizable.”

A "lucky" bidder has paid $42,500 to spend a week interning for Anna Wintour at Vogue in a CharityBuzz auction benefiting the Robert F. Kennedy Center for Justice and Human Rights.
Meanwhile, an opportunity to intern for a month at Diane Von Furstenberg was snapped up for $16,000.
